Becoming a mum to twins was one of the most challenging transitions Yasmin had ever experienced. Before having children, sleep was essential to how she functioned — but suddenly, rest became rare. With ongoing sleep deprivation and the added complexity of feeding two babies, Yasmin found herself exhausted and overwhelmed, navigating the realities of parenting twins with very little time to recover.
When Yasmin connected with Karitane, she finally had space to focus on her babies and herself. Through accessing Karitane’s services — including support for feeding and sleep — she was able to stay with her children and receive practical, personalised care from experienced child and family health nurses. Yasmin felt listened to and supported, working in partnership with nurses who were patient, understanding and deeply reassuring, and who shared strategies that were realistic for her family and daily life.
Today, Yasmin continues to use the strategies she learned at Karitane at home. As new challenges arise, she also accesses Karitane’s parenting webinars from home, giving her ongoing guidance and confidence as her children grow. While parenting twins remains demanding, Yasmin feels more supported in her parenting journey and encourages other parents to ask for help — knowing they don’t have to figure it out alone.
“Becoming a mum was really hard, but the nurses were so patient and understanding — they gave me tips I continue to use.”
