At birth, the average baby’s brain is about a quarter of the size of the average adult brain. Incredibly, it doubles in size in the first year. It keeps growing to about 80% of adult size by age 3 and 90% – nearly full grown – by age 5.
The first 2,000 days is a critical time for physical, cognitive, social and emotional development. What happens in this time can shape your child’s future. Positive early experiences lead to optimal brain development which provides the foundation for skills your child needs for school and for life.
The neural pathways, the connections the wiring are all influenced by how you interact with them, your relationship with your child will help determine their relationships in life.
That is why Karitane, a not for profit organisation and registered charity support families through this critical time for development. We provide evidence based services, education and support to families, we are with you every step of the way.
Early brain development forms the base for all future learning; cognitive, behavioual and social.
