This month we celebrated Perinatal Depression and Anxiety Awareness week with the help of local families and our Jade House Team. We took a moment to pause and reflect on the strength of the bond between parent and child by facilitating activities such as parent-child yoga, play with music, infant massage and parent massage. At the end of the day we enjoyed a delicious lunch and shared parenting experiences with one another. The day was filled with so many special moments as families bonded and new connections were made. It was a wonderful day to acknowledge a challenging topic.

Depression or anxiety, along with stress and difficulties adjusting to being a parent can occur during pregnancy or postnatally. This can affect up to 1 in 7 mums and 1 in 10 dads.  Many parents suffer in silence which can prevent them from enjoying their baby. Seeking help early is very important and forms part of managing such problems successfully.

If you are having difficulty adjusting to parenthood you are not alone. For more information about adjusting to parenthood and perinatal depression and anxiety see our page https://karitane.webdirector.net/page/for-parents/adjusting-to-parenthood.
